EXPLORING THE ROLE IN ART OF…

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2024

Our artists have used the elements of art (color, line, shape, form, value, space, texture, positive and negative space) as a vehicle to create a sense of togetherness among otherwise separate parts. Certain elements MAY be repeated, yet they still look and feel like they are lending themselves to a whole.

we welcome three PAST members of gallery35—patricia anderson, susan lennon and PhylLis TRACY malinow— who are SHOWING work in this exhibit to help us celebrate our 20th Anniversary season!

KICKING OFF OUR 20TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON!

LOOKING BACK: CELEBRATING 20 YEARS !

Gallery35 was known as “artgroup@ccny” when a small group of Community Church members began meeting in 200420 years ago! Our first exhibition in the church’s gallery space on 35th Street was installed in 2005. Many more exhibits followed until the spring of 2020. At that time, the pandemic closures began and shortly thereafter the church sold its buildings. Not to be stopped, we’ve been presenting subsequent Gallery35 exhibits “virtually” on our website right up to the present. In addition, in a nearby space, we began launching small live exhibits in 2023.

We thank everyone for supporting our exhibits over the years and hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as we begin our 20th Anniversary Season!

ON MY WAY HOME: PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICK PEREZ

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2023

This exhibit showcases a collection of photographs taken on the fly on the photographer’s way home from various and sundry locations at different seasons and times of the day. The locations pictured encompass Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, the first being the photographer’s home location. Virtually all of the photographs where taken with an iPhone.

The images reflect the incredible diversity of sights that make up the photographer’s everyday life. From the vibrant chaos of the cityscape to the serene beauty of its green spaces, each photograph tells its own unique story.

Through this exhibit, viewers are invited to immerse themselves in the photographer’s world, exploring the intricate tapestry of sights, emotions, and experiences that shape his daily life. It serves as a reminder that beauty can be found even in the most mundane moments, offering a fresh perspective on the diversity and richness of the human experience.

ELLEN MANDELBAUM

PERSONAL FAVORITES FROM A LIFETIME IN ART

JUNE/JULY/August 2023

Art goes on. I’ve led a complicated life interrupted by several serious illnesses but, no matter what, almost always, I made art. I started like almost everyone else as a kid and passed the early teenage years when almost all kids stop. But I didn’t. I went to The Museum of Modern Art Children’s School and then The Art Students League and the Hochschule fur Bildende Kuenste in Berlin and on and on until I received a Master of Fine Arts.
Once or twice, I thought I might do something else, but I kept on painting until I was totally unsuccessful getting a gallery. Not making it in the sixties. I couldn’t get a gallery but got a creative block instead – until I discovered stained glass. Then art kept on going until making it, I made something of myself – my small bit of fame. My painterly stained glass is widely acknowledged and appreciated; I am a Senior Advisor of The American Glass Guild; In 2019 I received The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Stained Glass Association of America.
