Continuing its 2016/2017 season, Gallery35 presents Glass & Gold—a two-person exhibit of the work of Ellen Mandelbaum and Karen Fitzgerald.

Both recognized artists, each bring a focus on light to their oeuvres. Mandelbaum began her career as a painter, but switched to working with glass. Her work appears in many public spaces; she has been commissioned to create glass-based work across the United States. Fitzgerald has exhibited across the US as well. Her work utilizes gilded grounds and is done on tondo forms. She has been working exclusively with the round form for nearly 30 years. Both artists often work with watercolor as a point of inspiration.

All events are free and open to the public.
Outside of these public hours, the gallery is open by appointment only.

Gallery35 is pleased to present a solo art exhibit by John Devaney—a Murray Hill resident—who became an exhibiting member of the gallery in 2014

John Devaney has been exhibiting his cityscapes painted during his past 8 years of living in midtown Manhattan—parks, buildings, rooftops, and the flow of humanity surging through them. In a manner described as “Dickensian,” he reports on the endless changing shapes of people and their environments in a city half recognizable and half imagined.

John is a recipient of a National Endowment Fellowship in Painting, a Harvard Research Fellow in theVisual Arts, McDowell and Yaddo Residencies, and has been awarded mural commissions from the University of Connecticut, The Morgan Art Center, and the City of Cambridge. His paintings have been included in numerous museum and gallery exhibitions, including the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, the List Visual Art Center, the Danforth, Springfield, Boston Museum School, and the Lyman-Allan Museum.

ART SHOWCASE 2015—May 3rd thru June 20th

Opening Reception:  May 9  6-8pm
Closing Reception:  June 20  6-8pm

Art Showcase 2015—the annual exhibit in which member artists of Gallery35 display their best representative work—will be on display from May 3rd through June 20th.

Several techniques new to Gallery35 are included in this showcase:

Ellen Mandelbaum has coined the term  “aquaglass” to describe her clear painted textured glass, echoing a watercolor on the same subject—framed in layers 1” apart.  Light bounces back in the 1” depth off the watercolor so the stained glass receives the light it needs.

Bev Thompson’s sculptures are constructed of materials including spaghum moss, chicken wire, metal, fabric and wood.

Valerie Lynch has painted her abstract landscapes with alcohol ink .

Susan Harris-Demmet is combining cut paper with ink.

Also exhibiting: Cari Clare (mixed media), Kevin H. Maxwell (oil on wood), Lois Ross (acrylic), Marsha Peruo (photography), Patricia Garbarini (digital fine art), Pat Gericke (oil on canvas), and Virginia Asman (digital fine art).

Be sure to visit the gallery for this last show of 2014/2015!
