Closing Reception: Saturday, February 8th   6-8pm

Brazilian artist Grace Almeida Kawall will be the special guest at the closing of From Mato Grosso  & Havana via NYC. Grace is showing five works including hand painted, embroidered scrolls made with recycled material representing nature and Ameridian-Afro-Brazilian cultures. Liza Papi, curator, will also be presenting a DVD related to the exhibit.

On Sunday of the same weekend, Gallery35 is excited to present an exhibition celebrating cultural variety and artistic commonality found among people of diverse origins living in the cosmopolitan community of New York City. Children and professional artists of different ages and backgrounds have been creating visual art inspired by traditional celebrations such as Halloween and Carnival. The show displays the art creators’ respective reflection on culture, history and art forms from around the world.

“From Mato Grosso & Havana via NYC” opens Jan 11th

On January 11th, Gallery35 will open its 4th hosted exhibit— “From Mato Grosso & Havana via New York City” —featuring the work of three great contemporary visual artists from Brazil and Cuba: Grace de Almeida Kawall, Humberto Espindola, and Aisar J. Martinez. Also included in the show are 24 woodcuts by popular printmakers from Pernambuco, Nena—Francisco Borge, J. Borges and Costa Leite.

“From Mato Grosso & Havana via New York City”  is an unique exhibition connecting the important aspect of the popular culture from South America and Cuba to the United States, educational for all ages. Videos and talks about the artists and their work will be shown each Saturday evening for the duration of the show.

Opening Reception:  January 11     5-8pm

Closing Reception:  February 08     6-8pm

Rick Perez Wins Award at NJ Exhibition

Rick Perez—whose solo show at Gallery35 closes this week—recently received the High Achievement in Oils Award from the Pacack Valley Art Association. 

His work has also received awards from such esteemed groups as the American Artists Professional League, Hudson Valley Art Association, Art Students League, Audubon Artists, and the Salmagundi Club.

Gallery35 Members Show at Contemporary Art Fair, NYC

messner.lennonPaintings by Gallery35 artists Jean Messner and Susan Lennon  were exhibited at the Contemporary Art Fair NYC on October 25-27, at Javits Center North, along with the work of some 185 artisans and artists in the event’s fourth year. Jean and Susan joined 78—27 artisans and 51 artists who hailed from New York State. Their work was featured at the Red Wall.

porautumn_bestver Rick’s solo show—a survey of work created during the last few years—is entirely comprised of works painted or drawn directly from life including representational portraits of friends, acquaintances and professional models as well as assorted still-lifes. The work will highlight his interest in color, design and realism.  Rick is an exhibiting member of Audubon Artists, Hudson Valley Art Association, the Salmagundi Club and the Art Students League of NY and is the recipient of numerous awards from these and other organizations.
